Winter Romance

The perfect expression of being stuck in winter (birch + pine) but longing for spring (tulip + lily).

Pretty in Pink

Pretty in pink for Valentines Day: 1) cool pink ranunculus joins hot pink rose and pine in mercury glass, and 2) hot pink roses (rainforest alliance certified), white pine and azalea in handmade birch bark vessel.

Wild Winter

Winter greenery from the yard (andromeda, rhododendron and holly) mixed with a splash of bold color in the form of the invasive bittersweet, red winterberry and firecracker fuschia mums.

pomegranates, pears + persimmons

Pomegranates, pears & persimmons lend festive flair to this holiday arrangement of winter greens and lilies.

And you can eat it after the party...

A preview of a little something I'm brewing up for a 40th birthday extravaganza tomorrow night...Steel cut oatmeal tins (which I ate this morning!) with andromeda, eastern hemlock (not the poisonous one), radishes, onions, small pears, lilies and rose hips. I like how this is holiday festive (the radishes and onions almost look like ornaments) but not christmasy, which everything tends to be this time of year.

Say goodbye...

Made with the final bit of flowers left lingering in my garden, this wild, rustic bouquet marks the end of one of the finest flower seasons of all (autumn) and the beginning of a long, cold wait until spring. Sad but always exciting to see what we can come up with during the dark days of winter. In this fall mix: anemone centers, echinacea, wild aster, hydrangea leaves, sweet autumn clematis vine, achillea, and artemesia in antique blue ball jar).

Autumn Easy

Just when I thought all the blue berries I spied last week had disappeared...I find them! Greens and blue berries in a tin can. Sweet and simple with a manly elegance. Note: these porcelin berries are actually invasive in Connecticut.

Egyptian Papyrus in a Pot

I'm obsessed with this amazing egyptian papyrus plant on a neighbor's door stoop. I tried to find one in the nyc flower district and no such luck...only the traditional looking papyrus but not this variety with the smaller, poofier clusters at the end of long, narrow rays. Would be spectacular as an option for a more modern table arrangement or decor.

Dropped off these sweet & shiny little arrangements at the always-fabulous design boutique Pimlico in New Canaan, Ct. Silvery artemisia is one of my new favorite fillers.
